Jallikattu film 2019

The film is technically brilliant.

Firstly the commendable Direction of Photography especially for the first 20 minutes and the last half an hour. The DOP was so raw, rustic and astounding. The pile of people sequence in the climax was astoudning to watch and the camera department rocked.

Then the music was used both creatively and sensibly. The film's background score although repeatative, sounded so authentic and innovative. No one could've ever thought of that kind of BGM for a raw and rustic film like this. And sesible because where the scene has to be left silent to feel the pulse, BGM was avoided totally without any other second thought. Music was great.

When it comes to screenplay, especially the scene which elaborates on the past conflict between Anthony and Kuttachan, the screenplay was so smooth and perfect. Also, in crafting the climax hunting sequence and the opening bull escaping sequence was very very commendable.

Locations wise couldn't say much coz the film travels majorly during the night, but the entire feel of a village setho was transferred to the audience throughout using the pure and fresh locations that could be made out in all the daytime exterior frames. Dialogues were so elegant and realistic which were very close to the culture and tradition of the people near the village. The most wonderful aspect in the film technically was the sound design. What not was perfect kn sound design, right from the ambience of the butcher's shop, the well scene, the sequence of hunting under the bushes, and finally the trademark scene of the pile of people.... Each and every scene's ambience was flawlessly brought through technical authentic sound design. It was the best in the film. Cannot mention anything about casting, as each actor acted just for the story and the message. When it comes to message/theme of the the film, the film has a multi-layered brillaintly written and emotionally charges-up theme. And each scene and each dialogue could create a layer of the message and connect to the audience.
There are hardly any negatives that could be spotted but one of the them (not a negative but just a suggestion) that I felt is that, scenes were the bull is shown in close up here and there in the film while people are searching the bull, while police is being called, could have been kept which would enhance the story and convey more of the story and probably create some more layers of the mindset and character of the bull. This film is that kind of a film that portrayed Indian tradition and it's culture especially that of those in the village, in one way... And in another it also portrayed the Indian mindset especially that of those in the village. A remarkable film that is esteem technically and its entertaining too. A must watch! Rating - 9.5/10
